Environmental program of the city of Stockholm

Stockholm city environmental program for 2007-2011 was approved in November 2007. The previous program for 2002-2006 had recommendations to avoid copper in new water distribution systems and roofs and facades. These recommendations were taken out from the new program. SCDA has worked actively for years to convince authorities and politicians that there was no scientific evidence to back up these restrictions. The restrictions were based on precautionary principle, the city considered there was not enough knowledge about the risks of copper for the environment. Copper EU risk assessment that industry worked on since 2000 and is now fully approved in EU committees has collected all scientific research on copper, and there is plenty of evidence that copper causes no general risk to environment with its current use patterns.
